Meet Our Coaches & Captains
Head Coach Katherine (Kat) Aversano (she/her/they) is a World Rugby L2 Certified Coach, Certified World Rugby Educator, and a PCA Double-Goal Coach. Before joining Howard, she coached NOVA Women's Rugby 15s from 2017-2021, Head Coach of 15s and 7s teams at Fort Hunt Rugby from 2014-2021, various adult and high school select sides, and featured at selection camps and clinics.
Coach Aversano is a graduate of Howard Law and the University of Mary Washington where she began playing rugby in 2000.
Assistant Coach Katie (Sully) Sullivan (she/her) is a World Rugby L1 Certified Coach. Coach Sullivan has previously coached at the University of Scranton, before residing in D.C. She has been a long-time prop for NOVA Women's Rugby Club. Among her many accolades, Sullivan helped propel NOVA to a Division I 15s National Championship in 2019.
Sullivan is a graduate of Penn State University and began playing rugby in 2010 in Ireland.
Head Coach Tito Miranda (he/him) is a World Rugby L1 Certified Coach. Coach Miranda has been the Old Glory DC U20 Academy coach since its inception. He is also the assistant backs coach for Fort Hunt Rugby and since 2017, he has also specialized as a kicking coach.
Coach Miranda is a graduate of Mount St. Mary's University where he began playing rugby in 2013.

Captain Takunda Ruiske (she/her) is a sophomore nursing major of the Class of 2024. Ruiske, along with the men's captain, is a co-founder of the Herd Rugby Team at Howard University. She grew up in the Greater Baltimore area playing rugby for West Carroll Marauders Rugby Club. Ruiske played for the inaugural Old Glory U19 Select Side. In 2021, she was honored with the U.S. Women's Rugby Foundation 15 Under 30 Award.
As a co-founder of Herd Rugby, Rusike hopes that the program not only allows for female students to play rugby, but that it provides an inclusive space for future generations of Black female athletes to play rugby at Howard.
While Ruiske is incredibly passionate about rugby, she is a well-rounded student athlete. Outside of rugby, she spends time studying, conducting research, stand-up paddleboarding, and overall staying active. Before rugby she was a multi-sport athlete in swimming, basketball, lacrosse, track, field hockey, and other sports.
Captain Daniel Davillier (he/him) a legal communications major with a minor in sports administration of the Class of 2023. Davillier, along with the women's+ team captain, is a co-founder of the Herd Rugby Team at Howard University. He grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana and began playing rugby in his freshman year.
Davillier is a 3-time Louisiana High School State Champion with the Jesuit New Orleans "Bleu Jay Rugby." He commands the pitch in his experience as a scrumhalf.
Davillier is also a Howard Hilltop Sports Reporter. He is proud to attend Howard and is excited to continue to grow rugby. Davillier is has found that at Howard, many former football and basketball players have gravitated to rugby. He is excited continue to introduce athletes to the sport he loves.
